I have a Synology network storage system (NAS) that comes with a program called Surveillance Station. In my case I do not use the Reolink software. Again, it depends a lot on if you need that! In my use case, I don't even use the tilt/zoom features since it covers my child's whole room from one angle. Aka the E1 zoom will give you noticeably more coverage than the other E1 options, simply because it's a 5MP camera with a very nice, wide field of view both horizontal on vertical. Under this same logic, to monitor a whole room I prefer a 5MP over a 4MP camera, simply b/c if you look at the display resolutions for both, a 5MP is essentially a more square imager (4:3 ratio) and has a larger vertical field of view over its 4MP counterpart (16:9 ratio). For this reason I like the E1 Pro and E1 Zoom over the regular E1 you get a wider field of view to cover a whole room. Not so important for a baby in the crib, but important for a toddler on the move. A horizontal angle of view closer to 90 or 100deg means you'll have a much better chance of catching all corners of a kids room. A lot of cheaper cameras will advertise a horizontal angle of view < 90deg, which means you'll be hard pressed to see the whole room corner to corner. When it comes to using an IP camera as a baby monitor, I find that one key element you need is a very wide angle-of-view. These are industry standards so any camera from Reolink, Amcrest, dahue, Wyze, etc that advertise being RTSP IP-camera will work this way (connecting via an IP address). In addition, it supports ONVIF and RTSP streams, which is essentially a standard super-basic protocol to setup, maintain, live stream, and record from any camera that has those protocols. ![]() It is an IP-camera, which means you can watch the stream via the Reolink app (phone or computer) or simply by logging into the camera's local LAN IP address (where you essentially watch it through a browser window). Not sure how tech savvy you are so I apologize if any of this is patronizing. ![]() OK so yes I am using this camera as a LAN-based webcam for baby monitoring. CPU seems to be running 80%-100% when streaming at 4500 kbps and ethernet throughput off 500 KB/s It feels like something is wrong here, and the camera is the only device piling up this much logged traffic. DHCPDISCOVER from the camera has happening 2300 times on 1/8/21. ![]() 10000 times on 1/6/21, etc.Īny idea what this is, and how I can stop the camera from trying to do this? I don't know enough about ethernet routing to say if this is burdening by router, but it's definitely blowing up my logs.Īlso, if it helps the discussion at all, I also noticed that the camera is re-requesting an IP from my DHCP thousands of times every day. ![]() The packet is blocked by my router, and the camera can't reach these servers, but it's trying literals tens-of-thousands of times every day. I reviewed my routers logs and realized it's constantly trying to reach out to some servers at 3.94.153.12 and 52.91.243.156, which appear to be some random Amazon servers. I have a Reolink E1 Zoom setup in my home network with a static LAN IP and no WAN internet access.
